A quick and easy 10-minute meal featuring noodles tossed in a sticky, savory-hot honey sauce with garlic, soy, and chili for a perfect balance of sweet heat and umami richness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225 g) dried egg noodles or spaghetti (can swap with rice noodles for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable or canola oil)
  • 3 tablespoons honey (local wildflower honey recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium if preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (adjust to heat preference)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • Thinly sliced green onions (for garnish)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Fresh cilantro or basil leaves (optional, for brightness)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 8 oz dried noodles and cook according to package instructions, usually 7-9 minutes, until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Drain and set aside, reserving ¼ cup (60 ml) of the pasta water.
  2. While noodles cook, heat 1 tablespoon neutral oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  3. Lower heat to medium-low. Stir in 3 tablespoons honey, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 teaspoon chili flakes, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil if using. Let the mixture bubble gently for 1-2 minutes, stirring to combine and slightly thicken.
  4. Add the drained noodles to the skillet, tossing gently to coat evenly with the hot honey sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a tablespoon at a time to loosen.
  5. Remove from heat. Sprinkle sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds, and fresh herbs over the noodles. Toss and serve immediately.

Notes

Start with less chili flakes and adjust to taste to balance sweetness and heat. Use fresh garlic for best flavor. Reserve pasta water to loosen sauce if needed. Serve immediately for best texture; reheat gently with water if needed. For vegan version, substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar and soy sauce with tamari.
