A warm, fudgy baked oats recipe swirled with Nutella, perfect for a cozy and indulgent breakfast. Quick and easy to make with simple pantry ingredients.

  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (whole milk or almond/cashew milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup (130g) Nutella
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup (30g) chopped hazelnuts (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking dish lightly with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine rolled oats, baking powder, and salt. Stir to distribute evenly.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg with milk, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Let sit for 5 minutes to allow oats to soak.
  5. Warm Nutella slightly in the microwave (about 20 seconds) and fold gently into the oat mixture, leaving streaks.
  6. Fold in chopped hazelnuts and/or chocolate chips if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until edges are golden and slightly crisp and the center is set (toothpick should come out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs).
  9. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep the oats tender. Warm Nutella before folding in to create luscious swirls. Rolled oats are preferred over instant oats for better texture. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes before baking. Tent with foil if edges brown too quickly. For extra crispy edges, bake in a well-greased cast iron skillet. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and can be frozen for up to a month.
