A quick and easy snack featuring crispy egg roll wrappers filled with gooey mozzarella, pepperoni, and marinara sauce, delivering all the classic pizza flavors in a crunchy, portable form.

  • Egg roll wrappers (fresh from refrigerated section recommended)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 113g)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (about 25g)
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (about 120ml)
  • 1/4 cup chopped pepperoni (about 30g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning (blend of dried basil, oregano, and thyme)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil (optional)
  • Vegetable oil or olive oil for frying
  • Water (for sealing the wrappers)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, marinara sauce, chopped pepperoni, and Italian seasoning. Fold in fresh basil if using.
  2. Place one egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with a corner pointing towards you (diamond shape). Keep remaining wrappers covered with a damp towel.
  3. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the filling near the corner closest to you, being careful not to overfill.
  4. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your finger or a brush. Fold the corner over the filling, then fold the left and right corners in, and roll tightly towards the top corner, sealing completely.
  5. Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet and heat to 350°F (175°C). Test by dropping a small piece of wrapper in; it should sizzle immediately.
  6. Carefully place 3-4 egg rolls in the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy, turning gently with tongs.
  7. Remove egg rolls with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Let cool for a minute before serving.

Notes

Maintain oil temperature at 350°F (175°C) for best crispiness. Roll egg rolls tightly and seal edges with water to prevent bursting. Avoid overcrowding the pan. For a lighter option, bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway. Air fryer can be used at 400°F (205°C) for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway. Prepare filling ahead and assemble before frying for convenience.
