This creamy strawberry milk tea is a quick and easy 10-minute recipe made with fresh strawberries, milk, and black tea. It’s a refreshing, customizable drink that’s better than store-bought and perfect for afternoon cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries (about 150g)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (30ml)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15ml)
  • 1 cup milk of choice (240ml)
  • 1 black tea bag (or 1 teaspoon loose leaf)
  • ½ cup water (120ml)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Make the Strawberry Syrup: Add strawberries, honey (or maple syrup), and lemon juice to a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes until berries soften. Mash with a fork or potato masher to a chunky puree. Simmer for another 2 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and let cool. For a seedless syrup, strain through a fine-mesh strainer.
  2. Brew the Tea: Bring ½ cup of water to a boil. Pour into a heatproof cup and add the tea bag. Steep for exactly 3 minutes. Remove the tea bag and let the tea cool to room temperature (refrigerate to speed up).
  3. Assemble the Drink: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Pour the cooled strawberry syrup over the ice. Add the cooled black tea. Slowly pour the milk over the back of a spoon to create a separate layer on top.
  4. Stir and Serve: Stir everything together with a long spoon or straw. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Serve immediately with a wide straw.

Notes

Don’t over-steep the tea (max 3 minutes) to avoid bitterness. Use cold milk to keep the drink cold. Mash strawberries by hand for texture, not a blender. Layer syrup first, then tea, then milk poured over a spoon for a pretty gradient. Taste and adjust sweetness based on strawberry ripeness. The strawberry syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week.
