  • 1 large soft French baguette or hot dog buns
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp (30 g) sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp (60 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp (30 g) honey or corn syrup
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced or finely grated
  • 1 tbsp (5 g) powdered sugar (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or chives, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the baguette lengthwise without cutting all the way through, leaving a hinge. Then slice across into 4-5 equal sections without cutting through the bottom to create pockets.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract (if using), and heavy cream. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. Fill each bread pocket generously with the cream cheese mixture using a spoon or piping bag.
  4. Melt butter in a small saucepan or microwave. Stir in honey and minced garlic to make the garlic butter glaze.
  5. Brush the garlic butter glaze generously over the top and sides of the filled bread.
  6. Place the bread on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and the cream cheese filling is warm and slightly puffed.
  7. Remove from oven, optionally dust with powdered sugar and sprinkle with chopped parsley or chives. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing along the pre-cut sections.

Use fresh garlic for best flavor. Soften cream cheese before mixing for easier spreading. Adjust honey amount to avoid sticky bread. Cover bread loosely with foil after baking if you want a softer crumb. Reheat leftovers in oven or toaster oven for best texture.
