A creamy, rich royal milk tea that tastes like a hug in a mug, made in just 11 minutes with simple ingredients. Perfect for cozy moments.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons (about 6 grams) black tea leaves (Assam or Ceylon preferred)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) whole milk
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey or sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of baking soda (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine milk and water (1 minute): In a small saucepan, add 2 cups of whole milk and 1 cup of water. Stir together and place over medium heat to warm gradually.
  2. Add the tea leaves (1 minute): Once the milk mixture is warm to the touch (about 2-3 minutes), add 2 tablespoons of black tea leaves. Stir gently to submerge.
  3. Simmer gently (5 minutes): Turn heat to low. Let the tea leaves steep in the warm milk for exactly 5 minutes. Do not let it boil; tiny bubbles around the edges are fine.
  4. Add the extras (30 seconds): After 5 minutes, stir in 2 tablespoons of honey (or sugar), 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of baking soda (if using). Stir until sweetener dissolves.
  5. Strain and serve (1 minute): Place a fine-mesh strainer over your mug. Slowly pour the tea through the strainer to catch the leaves. Press gently with a spoon to extract all liquid.
  6. Enjoy immediately: Your royal milk tea is ready. The color should be a warm caramel brown. Savor the creamy, rich flavor.

Notes

For a stronger tea flavor, steep for an extra 1-2 minutes. Avoid boiling to prevent bitterness. Use fresh tea leaves for best results. Double strain if using finely ground leaves. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat gently on the stovetop with a splash of fresh milk.
